(ENTERTAINMENT/EVENTS EXTENSION)

Once called the “Archgeek of Nashville” due to his role as a founder and chief executive of several area pop-media events, Lucas is often credited with putting Tennessee on the map in the “geek culture” scene. Mr. Leverett masterminded the framework for the first non-profit organization for the “geek arts” – ArtsCubed – which produced two weekend festivals, MTAC and GMX, for over 15 years. At their peak of success in 2013, these events welcomed over 10,000 attendees in his final year at the helm. Mr. Leverett led the acquisition and revitalization of the Nashville Zombie Walk, twice, each time establishing this popular charitable food drive as a prolific and festive event. Mr. Leverett contributed his talents to the expansion of the Maker movement in Nashville, and the inspiration of young minds through his role as a co-founder of the Nashville Mini Maker Faire, where he served as Producer for its first five years.

Continuing to guide geek-community events to new heights, Lucas joined the board of the annual Hypericon event in Nashville, and served as Creative Director for three years – showing them the keys to success in fandom gatherings with a five-fold growth in just one year’s time. He has continued as a “geek culturalist,” contributing to various organizations and journalistic projects, including serving as Senior Editor of multi-subject blog, The Stump, after spinning it off from its column debut on Zombies in My Blog. His lifelong “geek loves” include Transformers, Batman, and Star Trek, on which he maintains subject-matter expertise, gladly lent to speaking engagements and podcast appearances, such as his recent involvement as a contributor on the Back of the Cereal Box show. He is always on the lookout for the next entry into his portfolio of successful “geek brand” projects.

Lucas Leverett is not simply a community leader, consultant, or creator – his approach is that of an Auteur.

Some honors and contributions he holds most dear include his Gold and Silver American Advertising Awards, appointment to the Leadership Committee of TEDxNashville and its prestigious Society of Fellows, recognitions from the Consulate General of Japan, serving as an instructor in the annual Kids on Stage Academy and Chinese exchange student program, having served 19 years in the volunteer staff of DragonCon, lifelong contributions and involvement with the Adventure Science Center, and support of the Second Harvest Food Bank alongside numerous other charity benefit tie-ins via his lineage of projects.

(CIVIC/POLITICAL BIO)

Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan after an exodus from his native land of Nashville, Tennessee, Lucas wears a self-professed passion for cities and community on his sleeve. He’s an imagination and idea guy with an affinity for disruptions to the status quo. He’ll readily point you to his favorite Hot Chicken or craft brews of a hopped or caffeinated variety, over which he’s happy to talk social issues or the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe pontifications.

At the intersection of his professional skills and civic devotions, Lucas’s most visible work has been his contribution as the creator of the official logo identity for the Tennessee Democratic Party. As an early member of the Barack Obama campaign team in Tennessee, he continued on to organize visibility and marches for the effort in 2008 and beyond, joining the campaign to defeat English-only legislation and being an outspoken activist against stagnating special-interests concerning the site of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Further engaging at the city level in Nashville, he was a vocal champion of the Music City Center project, defender of Nashville’s first female Mayor, Megan Barry, and has frequently pursued progressive efforts and movements to demand accountability from leadership at all levels.

He is a cultivator of conversations and advocate for keeping power in the hands of the people, dedicated to an insistence on transparency in government. Mr. Leverett brings a core ethos of simplification to the often-overcomplicated realm of civic discourse, asking the questions that are often avoided in the halls of power, in a drive to render solutions which reap the most benefit to those not primarily enjoying inclusion in the political class. As a native to Nashville who contributed to its “it city” renaissance, he has seen the evolution of a city into peak status as well as the loss of balance success can sometimes bring. Lucas has many cautionary tales at the ready to help guide community growth in wiser, informed fashion.

A lifelong leftist and outspoken critic of conservative greed and misinformation, Lucas’ approach can be described as a “smash-mouth politico” when needed, while still maintaining an open heart for common threads of American ideals and a preference for fraternity over tribalism when stubborn extremes will allow. When “walking softly” doesn’t compliment the “big stick” accordingly, loudly treading into much-needed disruption has been a successful means with which he has created change for the good of his community time and again or gained recognition for ideas and voices previously ignored. Mr. Leverett takes pride in speaking truth to power. From his podcast efforts via his live-stream persona as co-host of Brewing Controversy, to a passion for doing the less flashy work of local committees and projects, Lucas delivers action to back up his words.

In addition to these efforts, Lucas has built a body of work for clients in political realms, including the local campaigns of Denise Bentley and Brandon Taylor – in which an entrenched incumbent Ed Kindall was unseated. His branding and design skills contributed to the gubernatorial campaign of Roy Herron, city and state level offices of Jason Potts, Steven Murff’s effort for Juvenile Court Clerk, the school board seat won by John Little, and council seat of Tanaka Vercher.

Whether the job at hand is by-the-book communications and identity, lending his voice to simple local community efforts, adopting the “loud-mouth” show hosting role of a podcast, or leveraging his knowledge of PR and media for or against a hot-button subject at hand, Lucas Leverett is a capable and formidable operator in the public arena.
